Notting Hill – Where Movies Meet Pineapples

“I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her.”

Do you need more information to guess where I’ve been last weekend? I don’t think so. But for those of you who didn’t see the movie (and it’s definitely a must-see) here’s another clue:

Notting Hill

Notting Hill – one of the most romantic movies in film history. And if you’re not only there to look for the blue door, the travel bookshop or the garden fence you might as well enjoy one of the most famous street markets in London: The Portobello Market. Whatever your heart desires you will find there (I didn’t even know my heart wanted a Virgin Pina Colada served in a pineapple but this wish sure was fulfilled).

It’s a great place for shopping, eating, people watching or simply enjoying the view. There is just so much to see and do you really won’t get bored spending a day there. I loved the colours of the houses along the market and the effort people made to make their market stall noticeable.

If you have enough time don’t just stick to looking at the usual stuff like books, fashion and souvenirs but go further to see the antiques for which the market is really famous for. Do you want to find something unique? That’s the right place for you.

After all the shopping (okay, let’s be honest, mostly looking) my friends and I had pretty sore feet and they showed me another great spot at the Portobello Market: The Fiesta Popular. There’s free live music every Saturday and Sunday and it’s your choice to sit inside in comfortable self-made chairs or sofas or outside on the “beach”. Either way it’s great and the music is varying so there’s definitely something for everyone. We had some nice street food while listening to the music and enjoying a nice and relaxed afternoon.

If you are dong your Internship in London, Notting Hill (not the movie this time) and the Portobello are something you will need to check out! And after that watch the movie and try not to cry – at least that’s what I try every time and then fail miserably.
