I'm Unsure I Agree
Living with a Host Family

One of the things that I was concerned about the most before I left Spain was the accommodation but when I was informed about living with a Host family, I did not hesitate to try it 😊

So here are the advantages you will get from living in a host family and my own experiences.

1. TOTAL IMMERSION IN THE LOCAL LANGUAGE

It is one of the best decisions you can make if your goal is to have a good command of the language. It is a way to enrich your vocabulary, learn new expressions and above all, improve your way of expressing yourself.

2. CONTACT WITH CULTURE

Living with a Host family will help you to learn all about the local culture. You will have a personal guide at home who can give you information about the best places to see and how to get there. They can show you the traditional local food, their customs and traditions. This is a great advantage because you can discover the best things that your host country has to offer.

3. FEEL PART OF THE FAMILY

One of the fears of travelling alone is the potential feeling of loneliness or being homesick but living with a family you have automatic support and get to know more about the people, which makes it feel like home.

You always have company and don’t feel alone on this great adventure plus you have an automatic social network 🙂

4. INDEPENDENCE

You might think that if you are living with a family you don’t have privacy. This isn’t true, because they also have their life as you do plus they have no problem if you are going out with friends, having a drink, preparing your own food etc.

You just need to communicate it.

The most important thing is communication with your host family.

5. SECURITY

Living with a Host family gives you security because they live in the same house and you know that you have good facilities etc.  You are in a quiet neighbourhood and you are living with local people.

You end up living the experience as a good at the locals do!

So yes, I think it’s a great idea to live with a Host Family. Enjoy the experience! 😊
