This is the easiest way to meet new people. Maybe you‘re abroad to study or gain work experience and are surrounded by people the whole day anyway! This is a great opportunity to just go up to someone and ask them to show you around. Maybe you can ask them for a recommendation for where to eat for lunch and invite them along!
Thankfully we have the internet these days! It makes it much easier for everyone to meet new people. There are many sites that are specifically for people living abroad to meet others in the same situation. But if you don‘t want to sign up for a new site, you can join a Facebook group where there are people posting upcoming events or just striking up conversations.
It‘s easy to strike up a conversation about something that you genuinely enjoy. Do you like art? Why not go into an art gallery and start a conversation about the art pieces! This way you will find people with the same interests as you and you might just make plans to go to the next gallery or museum together.
When you were younger you were probably told to stay away from strangers but now you need to do the opposite! This is what most people find difficult but you need to get out of your comfort zone and be the first one to strike up a conversation. It doesn‘t help you if you participate in all the different activities when you just keep to yourself! Otherwise, it will be very hard to meet new people when living abroad.
Take a language course, sign up for the gym, take a dance class or go to workshops! In all of these scenarios, you are bound to meet other people and have a nice time while doing so! Just look online which courses are offered in your area and sign up for one. You won‘t regret it.
