As a student abroad It’s important to take care of yourself. In Maslow Pyramid, we know its a basic element for life. Nowadays especially as a student abroad, it is easier just to buy fast food than to cook, but that doesn’t mean that it is always healthy for us. That’s why we decided to write a Blog about how to cook fast, healthy and tasty food during your Erasmus Programme. Below you will find a few hints how to enjoy your time abroad and eat healthily 😊
I know, having a plan when you are an Erasmus student is hard to follow. You never know what you are gonna do or where you will go that day or night.
So, it would be great to make a menu in your mind, to avoid eating random food while you are hungry. Of course, you have to enjoy the experience and we all know that is hard to stay away from junk food, but try to go grocery shopping as that can be a good experience too like learning the new words for food ’s, learning how to manage your budget, checking out local traditional food etc.
So let´s start with breakfast. This is the easiest one to plan because you are at home and can cook fast, healthy and tasty food during your Erasmus Programme:
Recipe suggestion: Egg, avocado and toast (Yes, a Millennial favorite!)
Of course, you can add other ingredients or prepare something different but keep in mind that it is important to begin your day with healthy food 😉
For lunch time, Why not treat yourself to a big salad and some lean meat, or soup. Nothing will warm you up.
After a busy day, The idea of cooking something might not sound like fun but while preparing you can listen music or chat on Skype with your friends. Better still, why not cook with your housemates or take turns every night.
Another great suggestion is to prepare your meals in advance during the weekend
Simply cook large quantities and boom all you have to do is heat up your pre-prepared meal when you get home!
This can be done for your lunches too 😊
Recipe suggestion: Instant rice with vegetables
A good way to food during your Erasmus Programme in a healthy way is by buying the perfect ingredients. First, before you go shopping, make a list of what you need instead of picking up random things that you don’t need.
Once you are in the shop looking for stuff, check the dates, make sure that they are fresh. Read the content to make sure they are suitable for you.
Here are some suggestions that will help you with your grocery shopping:
Don’t waste food, remember somewhere in the world there is somebody dreaming about it, also it is a waste of money. That´s why is so important to plan everything and buy wisely.
